Biography

Childhood

Inez is the daughter of John Paul Temple, a former Texas Ranger turned criminal. Shortly after Inez was born, her mother fell ill. Unable to afford medical care on a lawman's salary, John Temple began embezzling money from seized evidence, then graduated to selling confiscated drugs and guns to help defray his wife's medical care. Shortly after she passed away, his criminal activity was brought to light, and he took his young daughter and ran from the law.

Repeatedly jumping the border back and forth over the years, Temple raised Inez on the run, managing to outwit his former comrades in the Rangers at every turn. Having no alternative but to continue his life of crime, John made a living smuggling immigrants across the border, dealing in false identities, and often providing security for individuals looking to bring anything from bootleg CDs to hard drugs across the border, using the skills he retained from his law enforcement days.

When she was fourteen years old, Inez and her father were living in a suburban home under yet another false name, and had finally reached some stability. Unfortunately, they ran across a US Marshal by the name of Kettleman, who happened to be Inez's uncle looking to track down his ne'er-do-well brother-in-law. Posing as a teacher at Inez's school, Kettleman discovered where John and Inez were living, and led a team of Texas Rangers in a raid. The fracas ended in a gunfight where Inez was struck by a ricochet, and her mutant powers emerged. As her father escaped with her in a hail of gunfire, her body healed from the flesh wound, and over the next few months, the rest of her mutant powers began to develop.

Unfortunately, Inez's newfound strength and invulnerability came with drawbacks. She began to have trouble hearing, and often couldn't properly gauge her strength. The difficulties in raising a mutant daughter made it even harder for John to evade the law, and eventually he came to the conclusion that it would be better in the long run to give himself up. However, he knew that if he simply surrendered to the law, it would break his daughter's heart, so he staged an elaborate bank robbery where he could be caught and still be a dashing hero in his daughter's eyes. Kettleman again led the team to bring John Temple to justice, this time arresting him and bringing him before a grand jury that eventually convicted him of multiple crimes and sentenced him to twenty-five years in prison.

After an aborted attempt at living with her uncle, which resulted in Inez's first incident of violent delinquency and first running away from home, her uncle attempted to get her assigned as a ward of the state into the foster system. Finding few families willing to foster a mutant teenager with emotional issues, Marshal Kettleman finally resorted to contacting Xavier's school. Before being sent off to the school, Inez had a very public altercation with her uncle, resorting in some serious property damage and a warning that should she step out of line ("just like her father"), her uncle will have no problem bringing the full power of the law down on her, family or no.

At the school

In April 2008, Inez was brought to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and dropped off without ceremony by her uncle. So far she's adapted grudgingly to life at Xavier's, attending the Prom, rooming with Tatiana Caban, and getting a job as a PA for Adrienne Frost's 64 Square company. Lately she has helped out with Red X as well.

At the end of summer, Inez got into a bit of trouble with the local Salem Center Police Department after losing her temper with some local bigots in a diner. Inez was arrested after smashing up the diner and making threats to the youths, and only through some quick maneuvering by the school's staff was she able to get the charges dropped. Since that incident, however, Inez has had to work for the diner's owner to pay off the damages.

Since its inception, Inez has been part of the New Mutants program, and was part of the group stranded in Manhattan during Day Zero. After that, she found herself somewhat lost after Cain Marko, who had been one of her mentors, left without much explanation. Since then she was somewhat flailing for solid ground, hoping to find her feet.

Growing Up

Inez's personal life took a swerve from simple to complicated when she developed a bit of a crush on Julian Keller, one that turned into resentment after he began dating Angelica Jones. After the events of So You Want To Be A Superhero, Inez tried giving Julian the silent treatment for a few months until he finally bridged the gap and started work on mending the friendship. After the horrible events of Prom and Angel and Julian's breakup, Inez found the friendship becoming even more complicated, although her opinion of Julian wasn't as starry-eyed as it once was.

Outside of her personal life, Inez threw herself more into training and the New Mutants program, as well as Red X, accompanying Yvette and the others on a trip to Bosnia, where she helped save some children from a land mine. When Yvette was injured in the process, Inez carried her back to the camp and made sure she got medical attention. The experience has helped strengthen her belief that she needs to act as a leader for her fellow New Mutants - a decision that she and Julian have also butted heads on.

After a mostly uneventful summer, Inez and the other New Mutants spent a week at Julian's family's beach house, and she and Julian resolved some tension with a covert makeout session. When he took her out to dinner later for her 18th birthday, the two decided to become "friends with benefits". It didn't work out, Inez wanting more physically than Julian was prepared to give, and in October 2009 she left the mansion to take up powers training at the West Coast Annex and hopefully give Julian the chance to miss her.

Physical Characteristics

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 150lbs

Eyes: Brown

Hair: Blonde

Other Features: Inez formerly had pierced ears, which healed up shortly after her mutant powers emerged. She is nearsighted and wears either glasses or contact lenses, and is rather self-conscious about her eyesight. Due to her mutation, she has also developed a slight hearing loss and wears in-ear hearing aids to compensate.

Powers

Inez's mutation is purely physical, dealing with her muscles, skeletal system, and metabolism. Her mutation expresses itself in the following ways:

Superhuman Strength: Inez is superhumanly strong, sufficient to allow her to punch through a standard brick wall with ease. At her peak, Inez can lift about a ton. However, she still gets fatigued and tired, and does not have any type of superhuman endurance. While she can lift hundreds of pounds, she cannot do so for a long time.

Superhuman Durability: Inez's muscles and bones are more dense than a normal human's, in order for her body to withstand the strains that her strength puts on the ligaments and bones. As a result, she is resistant to harm, although she is not fireproof or bulletproof. She can walk away from a fall of up to ten stories without a scratch, and can take a punch from anyone of normal strength without flinching. Unfortunately, this durability has also affected the way she deals with the outside world. Her eyes often have trouble focusing quickly, and she has to wear glasses or contacts to correct her vision. Also, the bones in her ear are incredibly dense, and have lessened her sense of hearing. To counteract this, she wears small in-ear hearing aids. Inez is incredibly sensitive about these handicaps, to the point that she almost always wears her hair covering her ears, and will almost never wear her glasses in public.

Accelerated Healing: Not quite a true healing factor, Inez can recuperate swiftly from minor injuries. Anything severe enough to surpass her durability and seriously injure her, however, will require medical attention.

Equipment

None, except the hearing aids she wears to compensate for her power.
