"Correct," Marius said with considerable aplomb for a man responding to what was by far his least favourite mode of communication, "I am a veritable sponge for offensive mutations such as your own. This was, in fact, the pretext for the training session upon which Madin and I were about to embark." ”It’s new.” Jono replied to Madin, just as uncomfortable with the mutation as they were. ”I’m not trying to be offensive. Just trying to get used to it.” "Ah, no worries. That is, after all, the point of this place. Helped me adjust to my particular issues in times long past. Not so obvious these days, but . . ." Marius raised a hand to the window and peeled back his glove to display the tooth-ringed orifice in the centre of his palm long enough for the younger man to get a good look. It was impulsively done; as a rule Marius found it easier to hold a conversation when the opposite party wasn't wondering whether a handshake was going to draw blood. In this case, however, he felt compelled to make an exception. Jono and Madin were visible mutants, and Marius hadn't always been able to pass with only a set of gloves. Madin grunted at the sight of his hands. Huh. Bet he chomped his way through a lot of gloves. "He's - I think. It was. um. a lot of words. But he's right and was going to help me work on some powers stuff without, like, just melting everything." They grinned. "Which, there's nothing wrong with setting everything on fire. I did a lot of that when I was younger, but like, it's not always the best option, you know?" ”As long as you’re sure you won’t die. Come in.” Jono felt like he was probably going to regret that decision. But the older man seemed awfully sure about this. "Quite sure," Marius said confidently, already keying in one of the most basic training pre-sets. As he opened the door he leaned over to Madin and muttered, out of the corner of his mouth, "Just remember: in case of emergencies, I may be used as a human shield." As the other two mutants strode in to join Jono the Danger Room shimmered to generate a variety of targets. There were a few straw targets for the satisfaction of, as Madin had remarked, watching stuff burn, but there was a wide variety from which to choose. Marius particularly appreciated the carnival-style duck shoot for precision. "Advanced to target practice yet, or just generally getting the feel of things?" asked the X-Man as he stretched one arm across his body, then the other. In anticipation of his session with Madin, Marius was wearing only a form-fitting tank top that both left his arms bare and covered most of Akkaba's brand. No need to waste perfectly good body armour. "The feel of things. Haven't been too keen to even let it out since I've been here. Showering has been awful." Jono replied. His telepathic speech was still clunky, but he'd have to brag to Quentin about having actually successfully done it later. Marius nodded. "Acclimation is a significant first step of any manifestation. Happily, you find yourself in an environment where you may do so both safely and discreetly. Madin, if you would care to demonstrate for our friend -- one to my centre mass, and one to a target?" "He made me do this to him last time, to convince me I couldn't hurt him," Madin said. "I wasn't sure about it but I did it anyway and he was fine." Energy crackled around their firsts and lit up their arms. Madin shaped it, drawing on half remembered images of Sailor Moon's transformations, bringing the plasma into a wide arc before shooting it at one of the targets. Were they showing off? Shut up. The target was obliterated, ash falling to the ground. They brought up a second one, equally showy and punched it at Marius' mid section. The blast scorched a hole in the sacrificial shirt, but Marius took it without even a flinch. Aiming a toothy grin at Jono, he tugged the glove from his dominant hand and tucked it into his waistband. No need to waste a perfectly good glove, either. "I'm a bit of a thief," the X-Man explained as the same streaks of light that had run across Madin's arm began to flow across his own. He squared his feet like a pitcher and let the plasma gather in the palm of his hand -- not the blade-like projections Madin formed, but a ball of light. "Mutant powers used directly upon my person are absorbed, neutralized, and redirected. I return what I take, like so." The throw flowed almost like a single motion: a small step back, a longer stride forward, and a pivot from the hips that leant power to the arm and shoulder. An athlete's throw -- specifically a baseball pitch, which, although less practical in combat than fielding, made for quite an effective demonstration. Among the targets were a row of humanoid mannequins. In an instant one of them had ceased to have a head. Laurie posts saying she is feeling creative but doesn’t know what to unleash her energies on. Hope A. emails Ty a link to an article about men’s suits. Rogue texts Adrienne, Angel, and Jessica pictures of Sesame Street characters as beefcakes. Rogue posts about a Say Yes To The Dress marathon and her confusion over lavish weddings. 2016: Cecilia emails Sharon F. about her having acted well in the situation with Julian. Jean-Paul texts Gabriel about going somewhere warm. Darcy posts about strange creatures with tentacles. 2017: Laurie posts a link about dog names. Tabitha wants the world to stop hurting people. Maya mentions that she is involved in discussions about the assault in NYC in the Bayville chat room and invites others to join her. Alex texts Jean to ask about the assault victims and then posts asking for donations to provide for their healthcare. 2018: Clint texts Angel to ask what she’s up to and the two of them decide to share some nutella. Darcy posts up some D20 inspired pride pins. 2019: 2020: 2021: 2022: 2023: Garrison posts a cover of a song. 2024: Ashley texts Jessie from the airport to thank her for taking her leavened goods during Passover. Sam and Mel talk about Warren and Sam reveals parts of his past that explain his concern. PHASE 1 2004: Nathan takes Monet to task for her behaviour towards Manuel. Angelo finally visits Amanda and she assures him Manuel won't know his part in what happened with Rack. 2005: Remy finally gets a physical from Jean. Amanda tells Alex what she had to do to Selene last November. Hank and Dani discuss him adopting the baby. Madelyn reveals to Nate that Mistra had a copy of his birth certificate. Remy kidnaps Amanda to go clubbing. 2006: Mutant Fight Club: Kyle attends a ring fight and gets invited back as a participant. Not So Plain Jane: Illyana meets Jane. 2007: Nathan and Kurt watch Istvan Barath being voted Prime Minister on television; Budapest erupts into an enormous street party and Nathan and the group are caught up in celebrations; Blackagar Boltagon appears in Budapest by surprise and proposes to Medusa. Lorna forgets her paper and texts Marie and Haller to break into her room and retrieve it. Marius and Monet each find half of the knife Monet broke whilst drunk on their pillows and are suitably perturbed. Marie-Ange airs her concerns about Illyana to Remy. 2008: Crystal emails Scott, Ororo and Charles to let them know she will not be teaching in the new school year, instead remaining on Attilan. 2009: Nathan seeks out Ororo to ask her to put him back in training rotation - they talk about why he wants to get back to it, and agree he isn't quite broken down and busted yet. Scott notes his trip to a surgeon to get physio-therapy on his knee, there is much ribbing in the comments. Garrison and Inez talk about her reaction to what Jean-Paul did, and Garrison tries to explain the choices that Jean-Paul faced, and the price of those choices. Callie visits Doreen, who is having some trouble with geometry and offers to help, as well as giving Monkey Joe a welcome surprise. Lil makes a somewhat obscure remark on her journal, and her friends respond. 2010: Lakshmibai Raj: The train starts moving but trouble begins when a group of mutants attack the train as it reaches close to the India-Pakistani border; John and Jean-Paul attempt to stop efforts to derail the train; Callisto and Yvette face the first invaders on the train, and Yvette nearly gets bested by Mini!Warstar before Kevin steps in; Kevin and Cammie rescues Farouk from a Templar ambush and together they fight off Pulsar; Angelo and Jean-Phillipe attempt to stop the attacks and impending riot on the train and come face to face with Neutron and Magique; Callisto faces the larger half of Warstar, who is trying to destory the engine. 2011: John emails Angelo and Amara, revealing that he'll soon be an uncle. Angelo posts to the journals about how John is becoming an uncle right now. Wade recruits Klara as his minion number three, she promises to make him banana nut bread. Wade leaves Meggan a basket of Easter eggs and texts Warren offering him some banana nut bread, only to discover that Warren is in Rome. Kyle posts about the wonders of his college-mandated yoga class. 2012: 2013: Sue texts Hope and Tandy about planning Maddie’s belated birthday party. Garrison and Walters get lunch together and talk about the mansion and its mission. Matt and Kurt train on the trapeze and discuss other circus-type tricks. 2014: Marie-Ange warns Wade that taco yogurt isn’t a good idea while Billy offers to make it happen.
