| <td valign="top">Scott Summers Brought to the school as an angry product of the foster care system after the death of his parents in a plane crash, Scott was groomed as leader of the fledgling X-Men team and as joint-headmaster (with Ororo Munroe) of the school. His world was shattered with the apparent death of long-time love Jean Grey and over the next few years he gradually pieced things back together, discovering his younger brother Alex and his grandparents were alive and developing an on-again, off-again relationship with British telepath Betsy Braddock. Jean's return changed everything and eventually the two married. In October 2006 he lost an eye, the unexpected side-effect being that he finally gained control of his optic blasts and no longer needed the trademark ruby quartz visor. | | <td valign="top">Brian Braddock: Otherwise known as "Captain Britain", Brian is the twin brother of Betsy Braddock. Both twins were recruited into the British Intelligence group STRIKE - when Betsy was critically injured and left, Brian remained. Little is known about him, as Betsy tends to be close-mouthed about her family, but the family bond remains strong with Brian checking up on his 'little' sister and periodically calling her home for a break. With her recent return to England, his personal burden in caring for their mentally-ill brother Jamie has been lifted, allowing him new options. |

| Although his marriage almost collapsed with the appearance of Jean's alter-ego, bent on destruction, Scott managed to weather that and Jean's subsequent departure after his own capture and torture. Over the next few years Scott gradually matured into his role as leader of the X-Men, dealing with everything from Magneto taking over a space laser to giant purple dragons. In September 2009, following some particularly fraught months, Scott and Jean relocated to the West Coast Annex under Charles' instructions to assist in forming an active team based on the west coast. Jean has since returned to Xavier's, leaving Scott to continue the work in California.
