Plot Summary
After Jay's assault by Tommy, Forge attempts to surprise his suitemate by learning to ride a horse. Unfortunately, trying to do so without any instruction or supervision winds up with Forge thrown from the horse, and an awkward landing breaks his left wrist. Jean responds to his emergency page, and manages to get some immediate first aid done and escorts Forge to the infirmary.
Hank visits Forge in the infirmary, and lets him know that there seem to be some complications and that he's given Forge's father a call. It is discovered that the initial explosion that took Forge's hand and leg also caused damage to the bones in his left arm, killing off capillary function and slowly making them brittle as chalk. The news is broken to Forge and his father that a rather extreme surgery is needed.
Forge takes the news rather matter-of-factly, and begins preparations for creating a new prosthetic out of the recovered myomer from the Reaver invasion in February. Forge's father lets slip that he's been working with the US Patent and Trademark Office to allow his son to finally be able to patent his inventions.
Over four days, Forge creates the new prosthesis and undergoes a small Cheyenne 'smudging' ceremony with his father and Dani for luck before heading to the hospital. Unbeknownst to Forge or his father, Catseye manages so sneak along in the car, creeping her way through the hospital and hiding out until after the surgery, when she manages to get into Forge's recovery room and stay with him until he wakes.
After the surgery, Forge returns home to the mansion and begins the long recovery process of physical therapy and exercise for his new arm.
