Moment of Awesome - Scott Summers/Cyclops : During a vacation, Scott and Kitty talk about the demands of the life they live. And the compensations.

Scott let out a breath, the air rushing out of his lungs in a soft sigh as he turned his brown eyes on Kitty and nodded slowly. "Yeah," he scrubbed his hand through his hair, eyes narrowing as he glanced around them before lowering himself to sit next to her, slipping an arm around her shoulders. "Not exactly the first day of the break I was hoping for."

"Me neither." She glanced over at him. "You know, the whole time I was away from Xavier's, it seemed like nothing like this ever happened. I could almost forget it all. Until..." Kitty's gaze drifted as she recalled that night, now so long ago, when the world had tilted just slightly enough to destroy her world. Or so it had felt at the time.

Scott pressed his lips together tightly, using his arm around her shoulder to pull Kitty closer to him. He recognised the way her voice trailed off, the thousand yard stare in her eyes, he'd done it himself countless times, knew the memories she was reliving. "Until it caught up with you when you were least expecting it," he finished for her softly, "till it threw you a curve ball."

"Yeah...I guess I shouldn't talk about it. It shouldn't matter anymore but...I still think about it from time to time." Kitty sighed. "The life unlived, I guess." She forced herself away from the tiny longing that still sprung up inside, the desire for a normal life. "Hey, that life was boring though, wasn't it?"

She smiled. "So what happens next on this break of ours?"

Scott felt the corners of his mouth curling up into a small smile, the woman under his arm bringing a happy look to his eyes as he glanced down at her. "Well we've started off with a ransacked cabin and a brooding host so I'm thinking that...we've found ourselves in a horror story and the animals are all gonna unite against us," he declared with a straight face.

"That sounds like something out of a Joss Whedon movie," she laughed. "But maybe we'll get lucky. This could be a start to an adventure story--maybe there's treasure in those woods!"

Scott laughed as he glanced over at Kitty and shook his head, "Nah, never going to happen," he denied as the corners of his mouth curved up into a small smile. "I've already used up all the luck any guy can ever ask to have."

"Bad luck?" she teased.

"The worst," he agreed, playfully as he gave her a little squeeze, "And since it's all your fault, just what do you intend to do about it?"

"Wait and see," Kitty grinned.
