Terry 2015

She wasn't really his manager though it was a useful fiction and she did occasionally moonlight in that role. It made for good press after all and kept the inquiries about when she'd go back to her own career to a minimum. Since that date approached roughly never, she wasn't much interested in discussing it.

Terry had loved being on-stage and at 19, 20, even 21 had thought that she would stick with it for the rest of her life. While Jay had taken the slower but probably more genuine route of working the clubs until he gained a following, Terry had taken the shortcut and performed as the opening act to Alison Blaire's reunion tour. Flashy stage antics and a deliberately Celtic-infused pop/rock flavor combined with just a few bad girl rumors was all it had taken for the media to latch onto her as their new sex symbol.

Alison had been furious with her. The older woman had spent her career proving that music didn't mean excess. But Terry had taken to the alcohol, the drugs, the parties without fear. They parted ways after the international tour with Terry's debut album, Siryn, trailing Alison's in the charts and their singles fighting for the top spot on the top 40.

It was in Bern that they'd first approached her, sent by her father but of course they never said that. Because she was enjoying her fame, she said no to the offer and continued on her tour. For a while, it was the last time anyone connected to her past spoke to her.

Her sophomore album, like all sophomore albums, was a little more personal and recording it made her realize that she was lonely. It was in the middle of the ballad that would become her greatest hit that she broke down. She finished the album and checked into rehab, which PR had handled like she'd planned it to promote the album.

In rehab, they'd come back and this time, Terry took the offer and walked away from music. She'd been in Interpol for six years now and took delight in thwarting some of the ambitions of more than a few of her former high schoolmates.

For a few moments, Terry wished for a drink but the urge was strictly controlled, knowing it was really just nerves. Sliding slender gold wires through her ears, she took in her appearance and tried to remember to breathe. It hadn't really been that long since she'd last seen Bobby--but it had been a long time since he'd been willing to talk to her. She'd kept up on his life, of course. What was the use of working for an international policing organization if you couldn't do a little judicious information gathering on people? She was probably the first to know that he'd broken up with his latest girlfriend but had waited for word to filter through the grapevine to her before calling him for dinner.

The doorbell rang and she pressed her hand flat over her suddenly racing heart.

Funny. He still made her feel like a teenager.
