| Moment of Awesome - Clint Barton/Hawkeye: With Matt Murdock acting as assistant, Clint is in his element assisting in repairs on an alien spacecraft. Until he comes across the truth of the crash.
"Huh . . ." Reaching out, he shoved himself deeper into the console with his feet and began plugging the wires back into their helpful array of varied gray plugs. At least the grays had identifiable differences in shade and matched the plastic covering the wires.
Almost immediately a mechanical voice announced, "ALERT, ALERT, INVADERS!" in what was likely several languages.
Matt stiffened, tugging Clint's foot hard as he stood up.
As the alert continued to blare that same voice emerged from some hidden speaker beside the two men, now addressing them exclusively in English.
"Terrans," it said with unusual urgency from what was so clearly a synthetic voice. "Listen. We were boarded. They waited until my crew were in cryosleep to move. I jumped us to quarantine the infection, but –"
A blast of energy, so close to Clint he could feel the heat of it on his cheek, struck the console. Voice and alarm both cut off with an electric squeal.
"Clearly a malfunction," said the overseer, staring at the two men with unblinking eyes. He had not lowered his gun.
Clint sat up slowly, hands visible as he moved from his position within the console to standing beside Matt. "Yeah," he said, gripping his brother's forearm so his fingers were hidden from the apparent invaders. "Totally weird malfunction," he agreed affably, tapping 'fight' against Matt's inner wrist in Morse code with one finger. "AIs can be like that, though, especially when there's onboard damage like what we're seeing here."
Subtly, Matt shifted his weight, pulling out his billy clubs and springing to action, the sounds and smells of the aliens shifting as he moved. What else was going to happen? Matt was an excellent person to break things though. Fixing them? Not so much.
There was no perceptible signal exchanged – the aliens simply went from unnerving attention to moving almost as one, and as they moved they changed. Skin hardened to chitin as broadly human features stretched into masks of multifaceted eyes and protuberant teeth. As they rushed the two men the bridge was filled with a rush of sound almost like the stridulation of locusts.
"Oh gross," Clint muttered, releasing Matt's wrist. "That's just entirely unnecessary," he continued, already reaching for his pockets to see which coins would be most useful considering the way the fake crewmembers were shifting. "We've got bugs," Clint said, making sure his brother could hear him. "Pretty heavily armored," he said, already aiming quarters at several creatures' eyes. "Eyes are a vulnerability," he said a moment later as compound eyes on three creatures shattered inward. "Void random limbs. Dunno if they can inject poison or anything."
Fifteen seconds later, one of those scorpion-like tails went through the gravity controls.

2005: Nathan has a pre-cognitive moment whilst reviewing the files on his father's group. Moira asks Remy to check into Nathan's father as well. Saul Morrow comes to the school to meet Nathan and his family and students.
2006: Remy and Lorna continue to discuss their relationship. Bleeding: Marius begins to undergo some changes. The Rictor Effect: Julio Richter encounters Magneto and manifests.
2007: Carmen Animi Vermium: Marius accepts Monet's invitation and notifies people of his impending absence accordingly. Immram: Wanda meets Tara Trask at a university function and receives an invitation to lunch. John is hard at work in the Elpis offices and Nathan invites him to do more. Terry emails Clarice, asking about the Attilan disappearance. Lorna encounters Laurie in the kitchen and suggests she go talk to Dr. Samson. Tabitha finds a spooky book in the library and emails Amanda for advice. Monet emails Kurt to check on him. Farouk introduces himself to the school at large. Shiro talks to Nathan about the Unit 731 victims and hits upon a plan to help them. Sound of Silence: Crystal proposes creating a mutant school on Attilan.
2008: Red God: Nathan and Jean are rather punchy and disoriented after their astral adventures; Jean uses the link to Scott to get some stability; T'Challa and Ororo are a little awkward with each other following the battle, but resolve things. Jubilee wakes up disoriented after a night out. Yvette meets Callie.
2009: Jay emails the Pride goers with arrangements; Clarice helps Jay get ready and then they literally drag Shiro out of bed to go; Amanda decides to join things. Yvette emails Julian, telling him she doesn't want to see him again after what he did to Angel the night before. Analog Kid, Digital Man: Crystal and Laurie arrive in Dubai and confusion ensues as to who was meant to be where; Forge and Crystal have a conversation about current issues and talk about their fight. Mnemovore: Lil takes over from Nathan to let him get some sleep, she reads to Jean-Paul, hoping it'll jog something inside him. Later Nathan returns, and they talk a little about Johnny, and about Jean-Paul's recovery, or lack thereof. Clarice posts about Pride, a girl she met and turning straight again. Shiro meets up with Nick at Pride and they talk about family, minorities and coping with loss and prejudice.
2010: Butterflies and Hurricanes: Kevin visits Jean-Paul to tell him what has happened and they carefully test his new lack of powers.
2011: Molly emails Warren about what she needs to take to the Hamptons; Kevin asks for help relocating his unsold sculptures from the gallery back to the mansion. Sarah V. has sudden ice cream cravings and goes with Megan to play mini-golf; they talk about the future and summer vacation. Broken and traumatised by her encounter with the Baron, Wanda seeks comfort from Garrison.
2012: Wade leaves a bottle of Ron de Jeremy Rum for Doug, along with a note reminding him how "dangerous" the Internet is. Doug, in return, leaves a bottle of Crystal Skull Vodka for Wade, and note that reads, "Dan Akroyd>Ron Jeremy." Clarice posts to her journal saying a kid asked her if she ate the "Three-Course Dinner Chewing Gum" from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
2013: Maddie makes a post reminding Sue that Sue must wear a Rangers jersey and post a picture of it on Facebook after the Rangers beat the Yankees in their latest series. Garrison shares his feelings about losing his identity to Adrienne when she questions why they’re having so much sex. Matt visits Topaz in the Box, bringing the end-of-year dance to her since she can't attend it herself.
2014: At the Red X Charity Event, Jean and Scott run into Longshot and Jean confronts him about taking advantage of the tsunami on Avalon, growing increasingly confused when he has no memory of being there and assumes he’s being pranked, which causes Scott and Jean to decide there’s something off about him and agree to keep an eye on him. Sam runs into Longshot’s ‘handler’, Spiral, and is tongue-tied. Nervous about the upcoming auction, Tandy is given self-confidence and, unheard of for her, made embarrassed, by Namor. Cecilia, Lorna, Clarice, Angel, Marius, Yvette and Hope gather and chat backstage before the bachelor/ette auction, which sees Marius unimpressed with the bids on himself, causing him to bid on - and win - his own auction. A table of North, Scott, Jean, and Adrienne discuss Cecilia’s auction, which is driven up by Adrienne and Wade before Longshot engages in a bidding war and wins the doctor’s auction. Adrienne thinks she has Garrison’s auction in the bag before Abigail Brand shows up to try and win the Mountie, but Adrienne’s lamented sobriety pays off when she refuses to take the SWORD director’s bait and keeps her cool to win the auction. Angel texts Marius about her amazement over winning his own auction. Wade texts Longshot with a warning not to hurt Cecilia. Wade texts Marie-Ange asking how to make a fingerprint-less papier-maché horse’s head. Jean texts Wade to thank him for buying her drinks but reminds him she’s still angry with him. Cecilia posts to remind everyone that she’s awesome and asks to be picked up from Harry’s later. Adrienne texts Jean complaining about being sober and asking if an overindulgence of cupcakes would count as backsliding into addiction. Jean texts Logan to inform him that she and Wade are interested in trying to get Logan drunk. Clarice posts about how ridiculous it is that she was auctioned for so little and praises how Cecilia looked. |
