Biography

Steven had a wealthy, privileged Boston upbringing as the only child and thus doted-upon heir of his family. He was comfortable with wealth and power from a young age and with knowing he deserved it. DuClos graduated from Harvard law to work at a prestigious if morally suspect firm with ties to the Mafia, and met Adrienne, a senior in the business programme, at a homecoming game, being two years her senior.

Du Clos won Adri over easily with his charm, prestige, successes, wealth, and family connections, and the two were married after a six month courtship when Steven was twenty-four and Adrienne twenty-two. At first, Steven was the powerful breadwinner and Adrienne his doting wife and social planner, content to host parties and appear at them on his arm. Steven was pleased with her ability to organize social events and enchant his associates and friends. Steven treated her very much like a pet, which was what he wanted in a wife, and Adrienne loved his attentions.

Once Adrienne started her own business, however, Steven began to become angered that she was spending more time at the office than entertaining with him and for him. As months passed and her successes grew, Steven became certain she was cheating on him as she seemed always away. His crimeworld ties strengthened which did nothing to alleviate his belief that his wfe needed to be kept at home lest she continue to humiliate him with her successes in the social/business world. He tried speaking with her countless times about giving up her business, but Adrienne was stubborn and craved the attention the modeling agency was giving her.

Steven became more and more frustrated until in the midst of one particularly angry fight about where to go for dinner, he struck his wife. Both were shocked by what he'd done, and Adrienne agreed to where he wanted to go immediately. Pleased by the realization that he could control her in this way, Steven began to make a habit out of using physical force to get what he wanted from Adrienne and justify further violence when she refused to acquiesce, as with his demand that she give up her business. Steven made it clear that he never wanted to hit her, that he loved her and wouldn't hurt her if she just listened to his good sense. She was informed that the violence was a result of her disobedience, vulgarity, temper, stubbornness; always her own fault, always necessary under the circumstances. Soon every circumstance became an excuse for Steven to display his strength and power over her, always for her own good.

When Adrienne tried to leave Steven he used his criminal connections to find her, always, and bring her back, letting her know very clearly that she was his and he would never let her go, that they would always be together. When it became clear, however, that Adrienne's business was earning more than Steven could in years, he began to ask questions of his Mafia connections about having Adrienne, if she continued to refuse to give it up, removed from the business and have Steven inherit it. Adrienne was able to forsee her own death with her powers and arranged for Steven to meet with an unfortunate accident of a botched mugging before she herself faced a similar fate.

Steven was killed in 1999 after Adrienne hired a man named Guerero to execute a mugging-gone-wrong in New York City. Adrienne played the dutiful wife and paid for a lavish funeral in Boston, burying her husband in the same cemetery as her brother Christian.
