Biography
Childhood
Sean was raised as a Catholic in Northern Ireland in the 50s and 60s, when the discrimination of the Stormont Parliament was at it's height. The only child of a single mother, he found a father figure in his uncle Thomas, and a surrogate brother in his cousin Tom, spending a great deal of time at his uncle's keep in Country Mayo, across the border in the Irish Republic, especially after he hit puberty and his mutation manifested, making use of the empty countryside surrounding the Keep to learn to control his sonic powers without risk to others.
Raised to believe the violence solved nothing, and that the best way to effect change is from within the system, after completing a history degree at Trinity College (where he first met a young Charles Xavier, himself in Dublin doing postgrad work), he joined the police, and subsequently Interpol.
Meanwhile, Tom and his father were growing increasingly estranged, as Tom began to become involved with paramilitary organizations (generally in small time crime and a supply role, rather than actual paramilitary action). When Thomas died, he left the Keep, and his sizable fortune to Sean.
Despite this, Sean remained on good terms with Tom, who continued to use the Keep as his home whenever he was in the area - Sean turned a blind eye to most of Tom's illegal activity, provided that he kept it away from the Keep. Even when the pair met Maeve, and were briefly rivals for her affections before she chose Sean, they remained on good terms - Tom seemed to accept Sean and Maeve's happiness with good grace.
Sean began to be promoted within Interpol, and was away from home more and more. When Maeve fell pregnant, however, he made arrangement to be transfered to a division that would allow him to spend more time at home, after he closed of a last few cases.
It was unfortunate, then, that Sean was away doing undercover work, and Tom was about the house to look after the heavily pregnant Maeve when Theresa was born almost a month early. Shortly after being released from hospital, Maeve took Theresa to visit relatives in Antrim, and was killed in a bomb blast, an IRA attack on the town. Tom took the opportunity to spirit Theresa away, telling Sean's friends and relatives that the child had been killed as well.
Grieving, Sean threw himself into his work, and over a period of year, rose to an extremely senior rank within Interpol.
It was ten years later, when Tom was arrested for theft, that Sean discovered the truth, and was reunited with Theresa.
Sadly, it turned out that the workaholic Sean simply wasn't equipped to balance his demanding job and a teenage daughter who bitterly resented him, and when he proved unable to teach to control her emerging powers, he sadly sent to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
Living At The X-Mansion
A few years later, as soon as the opportunity presented itself, Sean took early retirement to join his daughter at Xavier's as a teacher, determined to make an attempt to patch things up with her. After several false starts, the pair were starting to make slow progress, when Sean found that he needed to return to Ireland to deal with new government regulations regarding the upkeep of their historical family home. Before he left, Terry told him of her accidental marriage to Bobby Drake; to her surprise, he didn't go after Bobby with a shotgun, although he was amused at the circumstances of their nuptials.
Further Information
Sean returned to Cassidy Keep in October 2006. In February 2007, Sean was offered and accepted an offer to return to Interpol, and made his daughter and her husband trustees of the Keep in his absence.
