Plot Summary

On a blazing hot day in August, Bobby offered to help the sweltering British Amanda cool down using his powers. Unfortunately the frigid air cracked the amulet she wore to control her addiction. Amanda notified the staff and Romany Wisdom immediately, however due to Romany's estrangement from the London Coven after Manuel's exorcism there would be a delay in making a replacement. Determined to show she could cope regardless, Amanda locked all her mystical objects in her study and gave her friend Angelo the key. She also refused to allow Manuel to use his empathy to take away the cravings - she was recognising that she was dangerously dependent on the relationship and given the events following Alphonso's murder and her departure to Germany, she was afraid of that co-dependence. Manuel took the decision personally, refusing to even support her through non-powered means and defending himself as saying he was doing what she'd asked of him.

The pressure of the fights with Manuel and her increasing withdrawal symptoms had their effect, driving her to spend more time alone so she didn't take things out on others. There were attempts to help from Nathan and the doctors, but they could only relieve the worst of the symptoms. Marie-Ange, responding to a vision involving Amanda, abruptly left with Doug Ramsey to see Tante Mattie, another support gone. Meggan, increasingly worried about her Manda, asked Angelo to let her into Amanda's study for some of her calming tea mix. Unknown to Angelo, Meggan inadvertently synched herself to the mystical energy in the room, and when she delivered the tea and cuddles, Amanda's mutant ability latched onto what Meggan had absorbed.

Horrified at the similarity between what she had done to Meggan and what Rack used to do to her, Amanda recoiled, pushing the younger girl away. Jubilee came in to find Meggan crying and Amanda in a panic - shoving Meggan at her, Amanda fled, driving instinctively to Columbia University and Strange's old building, only to remember that he had left a month ago. Looking for a tissue, Amanda came across the business card Selene had given her and, driven by the fear of becoming a monster like Rack and her desperation to cure the addiction, she made a choice: to call Selene and make a deal.

Meanwhile, in New Orleans, Marie-Ange came to the realisation that directly changing the future could lead to unforeseen - and possibly worse - consequences, and reluctantly chose to not tell Amanda what she had seen. Upon her return, the burden of her knowledge of Amanda's deal and the path it would lead her down created a rift between the two friends and this, coupled with the removal of Meggan to a suite with Dani exacerbated the witch's isolation.

Trivia and Meta

Trivia

Doug earned Tante Mattie's approval with his love of her Cajun cooking.

Moved to a new suite away from Amanda, Meggan responded by locking herself in the bathroom and throwing a tantrum which involved eating soap.

Selene maintained her side of the deal - Amanda did indeed gain control over the addiction and has not had a relapse since.
