As mutation is genetic in nature, there are several instances of similar mutations being shared across family lines. Many mutants such as Nathan Dayspring have children with identical powers to their own, while in other families such as the Guthries, a number of mutant children may have totally unrelated powers.

Some familial relations are supportive, such as the bond shared by the Summers brothers and their non-mutant father and grandparents. Others are antagonistic, such as the complex relationship between Mystique and her two estranged children, Nightcrawler and Rogue.
