One of twins born to Erik Lensherr and his Rom wife Magda, Pietro sought his terrorist father out as a teen, eventually joining his Brotherhood of Mutants. The events of X2, however, rocked his faith in his father's vision, and he became a double agent, feeding information to the X-Men in an attempt to mitigate Magneto's extremes. When his cover was blown, he fled for his life to Charles Xavier, cutting a deal with the US government to avoid imprisonment for his own terrorist actions. He reunited with his sister Wanda, but their relationship, always a rocky one, had further strain placed on it by her position with X-Force. Pietro became an X-Man in order to try and redeem some of his own actions, but it wasn't enough for him - never a people person - to make the connections he needed, and the speedster eventually took on a job as security consultant to the royal family of Attilan, old friends of his. Attilan is but a small island - will Pietro's notoriously short attention span find another avenue in the future?

Pietro's basic power is superhuman speed; his entire body is adapted to that end.  His top maintainable speed is Mach 5, and he can run at this speed for about four straight hours before fatigue sets in, though unless he's in a particular hurry he keeps himself a safe distance below the sound barrier so as to avoid inconvenient sonic booms.  Pietro's thought processes and reaction time are similarly accelerated; strictly speaking, he's not a genius-level intellect, but he thinks so quickly that it's hard to tell.  This also makes his thoughts difficult for a telepath to read--it's like watching a movie on fast-forward, specific thoughts are almost impossible to pinpoint but general trends can usually be determined.  He can dodge gunfire, create cyclone gusts, and with a head start run up walls or across open water.  He has been toying recently with the possibility of using supersonic shockwaves offensively, but had not yet moved beyond the theoretical stage before fleeing the Brotherhood.

Warren Worthington III, known among the X-Men as the high-flying Angel, is the only son of wealthy parents. A little naive about the workings of the world, Warren was one of the school's earlier students and returned as a teacher and X-Man, having gained his law degree. He also found love at the school - a relationship with Piotr Rasputin - and he is currently at the West Coast Annex. His family ties are in New York, however, and the school has a habit of drawing people back.
