Arc Summary
In 2005, Wanda discovered, by dint of being possessed, that she was the living prison for one of the Elder Gods, Chthon the Corruptor. While the X-Men managed to rescue her from being trapped within her own mind, Wanda still had questions. A return to Wundagore, where she was born and the intercession of a group called "The Knights", gave her some insights and reassured her that Chthon would not be able to use her to escape again, but still left many questions.
Chthon's exile was not the end of its influence on Wanda's life. Over the next few years, a number of incidents, seemingly unrelated but all linked by the same symbol and by Wanda's personal connections with those involved, haunted her, culminating in the abduction of Agatha Harkness and the revelation that the Cult of Chthon, led by Agatha's own son Nicholas Harkness, would stop at nothing to return the Elder God to the earthly plane.
