"And I just bought this jacket," Molly said, her attention flickering toward a larger, more humanoid monstrosity as it dropped down from the ceiling. Ripping a large panel off one of the walls, she used it as a makeshift shield as it leaped toward her, then went with her forward momentum to drive the panel and the creature into the wall. "Too slow!" Kyle's reply came in bursts, a few words, and then a flurry of stomps as he squashed a number of smaller bugs, and then a few more words. "We can send it to that dry cleaner in the DX." He paused, panting and leaning against one of the ship's doorways. "Need a sec, might've fucked up my ankle on that last stomp. Fuckin' gravity." "Yeah, breathing kinda sucks right now," Molly said. The sound of heavy movement made her turn as a giant alien slithered into view. It was different from the others, more fluid, almost elegant. She felt a shift. The rest of the swarming broodlings seemed to part away from it. A Queen. This one was definitely more dangerous. Its massive eyes locked onto her. "Aw crap," Molly said. She balled up her fists, ready to hit as it darted toward her. But it was faster. Quicker than the blink of an eye, the giant creature slammed into her, pinning her down so hard it shook the area. Air knocked from her lungs, Molly struggled from underneath the monster as its massive tail snaked up, ramming its stinger into her side . . . or at least it tried to. Unfortunately for the queen, it didn't know that Molly's skin was much denser than your average human, so when it stung her it was like trying to sting a brick wall. The momentary confusion from the queen was enough for Molly to get her breath back, which she used to let out an angry yell, her eyes glowing purple as she ripped the creature's tail off. The queen let out the equivalent of a roar and a shriek, white, milky blood splattering all over Molly. Molly then used her legs to kick the queen up and away from her. Grabbing the tail, she used it as a makeshift baseball bat and started beating it with it. "No." Kyle's refusal – sheer disbelief, a rejection of reality – was flat and dull as he took two giant steps back. Something flittered just in the corner of his eye, and he snapped out his hand, grabbing another flying creature out of the air, also rejecting the automatic comparison his thoughts gave him about his cat, and the occasional moth or fly that got into his suite. "Molly. Whenever you're . . . done . . . " He said, faux-conversationally. "Buzzing's getting worse the closer we get to the bridge." "I'm almost – " the body of the queen seemed to shift upon its last breath, reverting back to... "Uh oh, sorry Captain K'r'k. Guess he's not boldly going anywhere," she said, making a face. Reaching down to grab a pipe. Molly nodded forward. "After you." Today in XProject: July 3 PHASE 2 2015: Laurie asks Jean to meet her in town for brunch to get away from the mansion. Alison sends Sue a text thanking her for the pointers, but things take a turn for the worse when she uses it and her powers to damage the wall. Doug discovers Marie-Ange upset at her tarot collection - and then learns how much the universe being rebuilt has affected her powers, and ripple effects are seen, down to the organizational level. 2016: Molly posts to the journals asking if anyone has any plans for Independence Day. 2017: Emma delicately changes the subject from spiders to apartment decor. Maya changes it back to spiders. Cecilia, still on vacation, checks in with the medlab staff post-infestation. 2018: X-Men Mission: Type X Negative: Bobbi lets all the teams know that she’s heard another attack is upcoming. Wanda drops by to see Clint and winds up catching Miles in his underwear due to new Spidey-suit testing. 2019: 2020: 2021: 2022: Darcy texts Kyle and Terry to ask them where they are. Marie-Ange shares a new tarot deck she's found. 2023: Julio introduces himself on the journals and asks for a ride to a gardening center. Terry texts Darcy asking if she should make a cake for her grandmother. Forge posts a political cartoon to represent his views on the 4th of July. Julio and Shatterstar meet each other. Julio meets Matt, who offers to help with his visa. 2024: Jay e-mails Warren to remind him he’s taking tomorrow off for the holiday. Jono visits Paige to give her a pride flag. PHASE 1 2003: Kitty has a powers mishap with her pet rat Algernon and accidentally kills him. 2004: Nathan and Amanda discuss Manuel's empathic training. 2005: Jubilee finishes her first hand-to-hand session with Haroun. 2006: Crystal meets Kevin out by the fountain, and they have a rather strained conversation about powers. Terry has her first Danger Room session with Scott. Bleeding: Marius tells Forge that he's decided to leave the school rather than stick around and be an "invalid". The Rictor Effect: Julio wakes up in a hospital in Mexico and learns he is a mutant; Julio's father calls Nathan and convinces him to come talk to Julio about the school; then later that night, Magneto kidnaps Julio out of the hospital. 2007: Scott and Jean discuss the futility of the year's events. Cain announces the construction of a kennel on-site for the mansion's pets. Cain encounters Jennie, who is not coping at all well with the Attilan disappearance and then goes to talk to Ororo about the trainees. Marius and Kyle have a discussion that erupts into violence before Scott intervenes. 2008: Shiro and Alex have a confrontation outside the Danger Room and it becomes clear things are hard for Shiro with Alex on the team. Mark remixes some of Jay's songs for Silver, and Jay is less than impressed. Jan wishes everyone a happy Independence Day for the next day. 2009: Mnemovore: Jean-Paul runs into Johnny as he is released from medlab and reluctantly accepts help. Callie tracks down Angel (with bribery cookies) to talk to her about the latest incident with Julian. Charles announces the departures of three residents - Tatiana, Alex and Tommy. Analog Kid, Digital Man: Doug and Forge make their reports on the trip to their respective teams; Doug e-mails Forge about the escape of Milan and Quire. Fred posts about 4th of July plans for a BBQ. Jake posts about plans to spend the 4th of July on the roof with booze and fireworks. Adrienne helps Cammie study mathematics through the not so subtle use of bribery. Shiro visits Jean-Paul and they talk about helping him through his current situation. Jean-Paul makes a post to the journals about being back amongst the living. Laurie posts about being back at the mansion for good. Yvette runs into Julian creating waves and they talk about Angel and miscommunications are resolved. Catseye goes to see Jean-Paul for a visit and delivers a tackle-hug before settling in. 2010: Jared sees Crystal out flying and asks her out. 2011: Charles makes a post announcing what happened on July 1 and the list of casualties, also that most of the residents are going to be staying at the Hamptons for a few days while the damage is repaired. 2012: Jean leaves a squirrel coffee cup and a bag of ground macadamia nut flavored coffee and a note for Dori. Kurt tries to coax Dori into talking about what she went through in Genosha. Nico posts a comic strip on the journals about Jesus being a swell guy. Layla finds herself at Nico’s door and they talk. Marie-Ange posts a picture of animals talking in caps. Dori announces that everyone will be sorted into different houses via the Sorting Hat on the Fourth of July. Jubilee posts that she is taking in requests for firework displays. 2013: 2014: Laurie invites Doug to the mansion’s 4th of July BBQ. Adrienne emails Garrison about her evening with Emma, Emma’s invitation to Las Vegas, and their trip to Boston for the 4th. Hope posts an update on the Red-X fundraiser. Lorna posts a general invitation to the July 4th BBQ at the mansion. Matt posts an open invitation for breakfast/brunch at Deli-CAT-essen before the BBQ. Longshot’s PR people send Cecilia the asked-for autographed photo; Cecilia leaves the photograph for Clint; Clint emails Cecilia with his thanks. Wade has his check-up with Cecilia and they talk about tattoos.
