"Let's try to not tear the place up," he telepathically sent Inez as he quietly shut the door behind them and turned on his phone flashlight. "But if a computer or two doesn't boot up in the morning for some reason, well, that's just bad luck and warranty termination." "Yer no fun," Inez thought in response but reluctantly agreed that a more subtle - and accordingly less destructive - touch was required in this situation. Not her normal forte but she could adjust when need be. Turning on her own flashlight, she slowly spun it around and took in the room until stopping on a pair of filing cabinets in one far corner. "M'gonna check those out, might be somethin'," she said, starting at the top cabinets and sliding them slowly out, trying to keep quiet while quickly flip-flip-flipping through them in search of useful information. Quentin turned his attention to the lone desktop computer, which by the looks of it, still ran Windows XP. Not for the first time, he wished he had a portion of Arthur's power so he could get the login information, but that turned out not to be needed, as a Post-It note taped under the desk listed it all. What luck, and what dumb fucks worked for this church. "Were you a church girl growing up?" he asked as the machine slogged through its boot-up. Inez shook her head and opened her mouth before remembering to reply with her literal inside voice instead. "Can't say I was, though my parents were pretty god fearin' in their own way... didn't really stick with me though." She shrugged and closed one file drawer before bending down and opening the next, going through that one next. "How 'bout yerself?" she asked in kind, flick-flick-flicking until one file seemed to jump out at her. "This might be somethin' financial, looks like invoices for somethin' or other," she thought, pulling it out and sticking it atop the cabinet before resuming her searching. "Girl." As if Quentin had to say any more than that to answer her question. The idea that he would have ever tolerated a house of worship of any kind was ludicrously hilarious. His parents were the wrong kind of WASP to care about that themselves, anyway. No profit to be made unless they were megachurch preachers themselves. While the computer still struggled, Quentin got up and went over to Inez to look at what she'd found. Apparently run-of-the-mill invoices for office and ecclesiastical materials, custodial services, standard stuff. But one statement she found nagged at him. "Don't know why a church would have a budget for 'consulting fees.' And from Donovan Zane. Why does that name sound so familiar?" "Sorry, s'a habit of bein' polite and askin' back," she replied with a smirk gracing her still lips. At his further comments once he'd moved next to her, Inez bit her lower lip and frowned. "It does sound familiar, it's not a common one f'r sure," she agreed. She scanned her mind for anywhere she might've seen the name recently. All she came up with was a blank, and she was about to 'say' so before the word 'blank' jogged her memory. "Wait, wasn't there a case of some stolen blank cheques awhile back involvin' someone Zane?" She couldn't be sure but something told her this file was definitely one to keep an eye on. "Well, shit. A known grifter on their payroll. Did they get defrauded, too, or are they all in on it together? Good catch, keep an eye out for this name." He clicked a photo of the invoice with his phone before returning to the computer, now finally running. "Fucking Windows. As if we didn't know already these fucks are evil." Today in XProject: May 2 PHASE 2 2015: Warren texts Lorna about going to Russia with Arthur. Topaz’s quiet time in the gym is interrupted by the arrival of Matt. 2016: Kyle wants to know what the Met Gala is and why it’s all over social media; Darcy is excited about Alison’s light-up dress at the ceremony. 2017: 2018: Alex posts pondering about a blood drive for mutants. Doug posts about a May the Fourth Star Wars RPG party. 2019: Sooraya emails Terry to see if she'd like accompany her on some Mutant Underground home visits. Terry texts Jean asking if she wants to join them. 2020: 2021: 2022: Darcy shares her contact image for Topaz, which is a Final Fantasy summon of the same name. Molly reflects that there were some very large worms in Tremors. 2023: Gabe texts Quentin to thank him for arranging things for his trip and that he’s brought him back what he asked for. Forge makes a post inviting people to bring any busted electronics to him. 2024: Paige texts Jono asking what logomancy is. Paige gets a one-on-one hand-to-hand lesson with Kane. Kane and Jean have a casual date and talk about anything. PHASE 1 2004: Trojan Horse: Colin MacInnis lets Nathan free. Moira can’t sleep, the only way Amanda can is with Manuel. 2005: Traitor: Catseye watches over Jay as he heals; Remy begins to connect the FOH to the attack on Jay; Kitty and Doug decide to independently investigate Jay’s attack. Growing Pains: Forge shows his dad his lab and what he’s been working on. Jake meets Lockheed, then he and Kitty talk about religion, the school and cookies. Operation: London Calling: Regrouping at hospital the next morning, X-Force discovers Amanda is still missing. Bedlam: Confused and not remembering who she is, Amanda reappears at Liverpool Street Station and is mistaken for being homeless and told to move on; Remy notifies the X-Men team leaders, Kurt and Angelo as to the situation; Wanda lets the journals know Amanda is on a 'research trip' and not contactable. Monet asks Ororo for permission to become a trainee. Lorna's prankster continues to make it hard for her to pack. Kevin agrees to take Cessily to the prom, since she doesn't know anyone much. 2009: Jennie emails Forge to tell him not to talk to her ever again. Lil comes across Bishop in the pool and they talk - and flirt - for the first time since they stopped dating. Sam and Dani go shooting and have some friendly competition. Wanda lets people know she's reached her destination, and has a meeting with the elusive Irene Merryweather and makes a deal in return for information on Tara Trask. Angel is excited about the rooftop couch deal. 2010: Jean-Paul runs into Jake again at a bakery in New York and they have a tense discussion about Jake's lack of warning to the school about his presence and possible pursuers. Cammie offers her roommate, Laura, for sale. 2011: Wade emails Marie-Ange and Kevin complaining about having to explain things to Molly, and suggests they tone it down next time. Molly and Angelo have a discussion about her parents. Kevin leaves a birthday gift for "John". 2012: Nico looks for volunteers for a magical experiment. Lorna posts about chimichangas and having too many leftovers in the kitchen. Jean-Paul texts Bishop for help with a not-quite case. Wade texts Sarah M. about belly dancing and jingling skirts. Vance shows up in the City to ask Terry to lunch. 2013: Maddie thanks her friends for her birthday party. 2014: Red-X Mission: King Tide: Yvette announces an tsunami is threatening Avalon and Red X goes to help. Hope and Cecilia desperately try to evacuate the some of the remaining residents. Scott and Tandy evacuate refugees and must clear a path through the jungle before the tide hits. Matt and Angel race against time to get a trapped family out of a building and to safety. Kurt and Billy attempt to evacuate a resistant Avalonian. As Hope is pulled under, help is on the way. Jean and Angelo try to retrieve an old cranky Portuguese woman from being hit by the tsunami. Jean enters the astral plane to help find a panicked Hope who has lost control of her astral projection abilities during the tsunami. Bruised, banged up and bandaged, Matt runs into a curious sort of quasi-volunteer. Cecilia comes to Yvette's aid as she works to free a tsunami victim from the debris of his house. Kyle and Clarice end up swimming down and to assess trapped survivors in a damaged barracks, remove two bodies and rescue a amphibious mutant. Yvette posts to thank the volunteers. Kyle posts about a bonfire party.
