She couldn't think of any anniversaries or special occasions that would call for this sort of evening, but Terry also hadn't really thought about them much after they started the drive. "Are y'goin' t'give me a hint about what's brought us out tonight? No' that we need a reason, o'course." Instead, first, Kyle drank his water. "No reason for tonight, I guess, but not no reason?" Water was great, he took another drink. "I've planned this a lot. So much. Ter, you have no idea how many times. I am so glad you don't see how many times Marius has made fun of me. Including this weekend." He paused. "I was gonna do it this weekend, and then I couldn't be that much of a cliche. I couldn't. Valentine's Day is a ..." He fumbled a little, and went into his suit pocket and brought out the little pinecone, wrapped so carefully in white tissue paper shot through with gold. "You see me. I mean. You know me, and you've seen me at my worst, and you know me at my best, or the best I am right now, and you make sure I'm not running myself into the cracks, and you never hesitate to tell me I'm neglecting myself, but you also - you get why I do what I do, teaching and the institute work and the team." He nudged the little pinecone, fingers stiff with sheathed claw. "You tell me when I'm doing good work and you believe in what I'm doing and you give like, so much of your time to people, and you jump both feet right into caring for people and you make me a better person. That's really what it is, we make each other better people. We're a team. I mean, we're on the team but we're a team." "So. I wanted to make this us, and not because of the date, or a holiday and don't ask me how many times I had this pinecone in my pocket and ready to just ask, and couldn't make the words come out, and today felt right. So." He pulled on one delicate edge of the tissue paper, to show a glint of metal. "The first time we met, this pinecone was in my pocket and I couldn't tell you why I saved it then, but I've been saving it for years now, so that I could have it when I asked you to marry me." Getting down on one knee was not something a person rehearsed, except one billion times in their head. "Will you marry me?" Terry had been teasing, sort of, about why they'd gone out to such a posh restaurant, but then Kyle had started talking and her eyes had widened. They'd continued widening until she'd needed to blink and when he said he'd kept the pinecone for years so he could have it when he proposed -- tears welled up in her eyes as her hands covered her mouth. Then he'd asked and he was on one knee and he'd -- his claws were retracted and the way she loved him was just the same as breathing, natural and easy and so, so necessary. "Yes," she said, standing up from the chair she'd so recently sat down in. Reaching for his hand, Terry cupped his in her palms and stared at Kyle with bright, happy, teary eyes. "Yes, yes -- I'll marry you, y'wonderful tree of a man." Then she tugged on his hand until he stood. "I love y'so much." "Okay, but there's a ring on the pinecone." Kyle's voice came out quiet and a little rough, deep baritone with nervousness and emotion. "A really good one. I had help. I don't want to rip the paper though." He wiggled his fingers against Terry's hands. "I love you so much." Today in XProject: September 4 - Henry McCoy's birthday PHASE 2 2015: Alison wonders if she should dye her hair again. Laurie posts an article about wormholes. Jubilee asks if anyone wants gifts while she is in Cairo. Sue texts Alison and ask how she is doing with lasers. Lorna texts Alex that California is a go and if he would like to join her at her work. Gabriel is interested in learning about being a spy and Kevin shows some guidance. Sharon Friedlander introduces herself to the journals. Amadeus posts that he is the King of Deer and people should come and lick the peanut butter off their king’s face. Kitty texts Scott if he is still awake. Kyle is summoned to Charles' office and given a potential job - tutoring the students unable to attend the local high school yet. 2016: Jubilee complains about having to work at night. Gabriel suggests an end-of-summer party. 2017: Tandy asks if there’s a way to remove zombie smell from clothes. 2018: Hope A. emails those who helped her acquire her first piece of real estate to thank them. Sharon F. emails her friend about Qunbula and discovers everyone who may have been part of the same program has vanished; Sharon F. goes to Harry’s to drink away her anger and runs into Garrison. 2019: 2020: 2021: Matt finds Maya in the team training room and they have a chat about what happened during the California mission. 2022: Kevin grabs Darcy for some late night technology hunting. Terry texts Darcy, concerned for Kyle's well-being. 2023: Jubilee laughs on the journals at Jessica’s drama. Megan makes a journal post announcing she will be spray-painting t-shirts at the Labor Day party. Darcy and Kevin catch up poolside and enjoy drinks. Jean and Garrison talk at the “boring grill”. Sam swings by the mansion to celebrate Labor Day and Clint keeps him company. April feeds the wolf and teases Garrison about being a grill dad. Sharon S. tries to steal Jean’s chicken, but they end up bonding. Haller and Molly dent some things while playing super-powered horseshoes. Sharon S. and Liam discuss their mutual nemesis, Namor. Artie and Shatterstar meet each other. Arthur, Haller, and Shatterstar throw knives, revealing the existence of Benji to Arthur and the existence of Davey’s knife throwing lessons to Haller. Rictor, Shatterstar, Liam, and Match play chicken in the pool. Liam stops Sharon S. from scamming Sam out of his food. Terry is a mother hen to Shatterstar. Sharon S. asks Artie invasive questions and gets sparkles in her eyes for her trouble. Sharon S. proceeds to seek comfort from Darcy and Alani. Warren bothers Haller about wedding choices until he gets a work call and summons Illyana, leading to Illyana using Haller to help her pack. Clint enjoys Illyana and Boris’s presence until Illyana is called away for work. Doug makes an appearance to get food with Darcy. April is knocked into the pool by a wrestling pair of cat mutants and winds up talking with Scott. Jean texts Arthur to apologize for a misunderstanding that came off as rude on the journals. Jess and Match run into each other while stocking up on free food. Nica and Scott have a poolside chat about condiments and formality. Artie and Matt commiserate about having enhanced tastebuds. Namor and Emma flirt over poolside snacks. Marie-Ange drags Amanda away from the Transian books to take a break and they are amused by Sharon S.'s reaction to one of MA's imps. 2024: Clea makes a journal entry to announce there are freshly harvested vegetables in the kitchen. Dixie Dead Shake: Kane and Jean are ambushed at the temporary embassy; Amanda and MA wander around their old haunts as a few details don't seem to fit; while Marie-Ange is captured, Amanda escapes another ambush to the one place she feels safe and encounters a surprise; The kidnappers reveal themselves, forcing Garrison to fight for his life while Jean and MA watch; MA and Jean bring a dying Garrison to the only place Amanda would run to in New Orleans and find more than they bargained for; Jean and Garrison steal a moment after his resurrection to try and understand everything that has happened; Marie-Ange sends several voicemails and texts to Daniel Boudreaux; Selene texts Amanda, Garrison, and Marie-Ange’s phones; A strange fellowship discusses their next steps; Garrison texts Jessica, Felicia, Rogue, and Jubilee asking for assistance. PHASE 1 2003: 2004: Manuel has a pity-party though Scott doesn’t fall for it. Jean-Paul and Shinobi scope out a location for the HeliX ball and discuss important life matters, and later, Jean-Paul proposes a strange training exercise with Nathan, though Cecilia insists that Jean-Paul take a night off to relax. Late at night, Shinobi keeps Alex company. 2005: X-Men Mission: Stalemate: Gideon Faraday calls Nathan with news of vital information he needs; Nathan discovers Pete is the client and they fight; Pete uses an EMP device to beat the shit out of Nathan and put him in the hospital. Upgrade: Forge asks Kitty and Doug to write the code for Haroun's upgrade. Kitty and Jamie return from Florida. Just One Drug: Amanda asks Angelo for the key to her study back. 2006: Angel and Sooraya finally meet as roommates. Crystal, Medusa, and their mother meet with Professor Xavier. 2007: Noriko Ashida, a young Japanese runaway, is taken home by the police; Scott announces a new student will be coming to the school. Forge drops by Dani and Marie's suite to give Dani an article, and discovers a new prophecy on Irene's diary in Braille. The Winding Way: After Margali's funeral, Amanda decides to return to her true 'clan', the Snow Valley people. The first day of the new school year and Yvette and Jennie talk about their respective first days. Family Portrait: Laurie talks to Jean about her mother. Crystal meets Jono and there's an odd moment when she is shielding his 'speech'. 2008: Garrison sits Yvette down and talks some sense into her. Kyle complains about the number of lakings and sparring sessions he's had for his own good, and the thread turns into Jan asking him out to see Rocky Horror and a fireworks-buying trip with Jane and Jan; Doug emails Jan asking how long she's been flirting with an oblivious Kyle. 2009: Wanda and Jake discuss Cammie and their relationship, and the encounter culminates in them sleeping together. Kurt consoles Doreen regarding her family during a gymnastics class. Callie returns from her vacation and during a conversation about Malibu and Fred, Doreen admits her crush on Vic and questions Callie about boys. Jean-Paul emails Nori to offer to cook for her birthday. While discussing the situation in Canada with Marie, Amanda vanishes and ends up in Ottawa. 2010: Vanessa emails Jean in the continuing quest to find a replacement body for Daniel. Operation: Lie Back and Think of England: In Switzerland, Farouk sets up a meeting with the head of Agria Research with Remy and Ororo as back up and discover a link between Bennett and German Special Forces; Amanda posts to x_snowvalley on their progress, that the election was staffed by outsiders to the town and it's revealed that Bennett has several gaps in his history that aren't explained. 2011: Laurie posts about not having time to do ALL THE THINGS, as she has had to drop a subject at college. An elderly lady shows up in the XFI office looking for her grandson, who turns out to be Bishop, surprising both Warren and 'Riley'. Wade texts Marie-Ange about lasagna. 2012: Hope receives a calligraphy kit from her mother, one of the “deficiencies” she needs to work on. Sarah V. reflects on the strangeness of the start of the school year when she isn’t actually going to school. Clarice talks about her medical rotation schedule. Layla texts Kyle, asking what she needs to call him in class. Catseye suggests her dinner plan to the students and they are enthused. Hope’s mother sends her a book on good housekeeping, with a note about it helping when she’s mistress of her own home. 2013: Tandy posts about the summer having gone by too soon and her brain going mushy from AP classes. Sarah V. posts about already having found her Halloween costume. 2014: Jessica Jones meets Namor Mazur. Marius posts about going to Muir for some time. Laurie posts about being a third year scut monkey.
